Fordham Road shopping district scheduled for $500,000 improvements

Shopping is about to get better for some Bronx shopaholics since the Fordham Road shopping district has been designated as a Business Improvement District (BID).

The shopping district is set to receive funding and services to improve the environment for local commerce. The district will see $500,000 allocated to sanitation services, seasonal décor and marketing and promotions.

It took more than 20 years for the 275 businesses to receive the BID distinction, which was celebrated at a ceremony Tuesday. Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R-NY) says the goal for the shopping district is to make it the busiest in the boroughs.
