Approximately 100 Bronx athletes participate in the 2005 Empire State Games

Approximately 100 Bronx athletes are participating in the 2005 Empire State Games, which are already underway in the Hudson Valley region.

The athletes are competing in more than 30 individual and team sports representing the New York City region. So far, New York City lost to Long Island 2-1 in the scholastic baseball games. Bronx resident Esterlin Perozo tried to help his team by hitting a solo home run for the city squad.

The city?s open softball team lost 2-0 to the Western region. Again two Bronx residents tried to help their team. Manhattan College?s Michelle Gutierrez had two hits and Olivia Mauro, from Horace Mann, pitched a complete game.
