Kingsbridge developer battling it out over new zoning laws

One Bronx developer who planned to build a seven-story apartment building is upset over new zoning laws that allow only one and two-family homes to be built.

Paris Giannopolus bought the debated lot in May of 2004 before the new zoning requirements were established. However, residents say Giannoplus? plan for a seven-story apartment building is not suitable to the area. They say the neighborhood which is designed for single-family homes, is already crammed for parking. The City Council supported residents? claims by rezoning the area in September of 2004.

Construction on the proposed apartment building has stopped while the Board of Standards and Appeals determine whether Giannopolus submitted the right papers and completed enough work before the change in zoning.

The board will decide whether construction may continue on August 9.
