Coach Jerry Powers showed Bronx kids both basketball and magic tricks

One of New York?s leading basketball coaches, Jerry Powers, gave kids at the Five-Star Junior Day Camp a lesson on shooting hoops and magic tricks.

Powers talked to the campers about the importance of setting goals to succeed. The P.S. 32 teacher also told kids that basketball is more than just a game, it is an opportunity to break down racial barriers and become friends with all ethnicities. In addition to giving free throw tips, the record-holding city championship coach emphasized how important practicing is by doing some magic tricks. Powers said if he didn?t practice then he would not be able to shoot nothing but net or make a scarf turn into nothing but thin air.

There are more than 105 children enrolled in the Fordham Prep camp.
