Health department urges all Bronx restaurants to stop serving foods with trans-fatPosted: Updated:
The New York City health department is urging all Bronx restaurants to voluntarily stop serving food that contains trans-fat.
Health experts say trans-fat is the most dangerous kind of fat and significantly increases the risk of heart disease. The Food and Drug Administration has also found that there is no safe level of trans-fat in a healthy diet.
Trans-fats are components in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils and are predominant in baked goods, frying oils and breading. The use of olive, peanut, sunflower and cottonseed oils are promoted as healthier alternatives.
