City Council discusses improving education, securing more money for Bronx schools

City Council members, teachers and education officials met Wednesday to discuss improving education and securing more money for Bronx and city schools.

One of the issues discussed was calling on the state to establish an independent institute for research and accountability. This new committee would then oversee the city?s Department of Education.

In addition, Council members looked at making class sizes smaller. Proponents for this proposal say smaller classes would increase the achievement in Bronx and city students.
