Removal of token booth clerks at Norwood station seen as dangerous move

Some Bronx officials are calling vacant token booths at the East 205th Street subway station in Norwood a change for the worse.

Instead of MTA clerks sitting in token booths, they can now be found roaming the subway platform. There are signs telling Bronx riders, who can also no longer get MetroCards or change from clerks, how to find help. Some Bronx officials say this was a poor move by the MTA because clerks and commuters? lives are in danger.

The MTA says taking agents out of the booths will help them to spot problems more easily. MTA officials also say the agents will no longer have access to cash, which could prevent criminals from approaching them.
