Program offers courses to help Bronx fight unemployment

With thousands of jobs available throughout the five boroughs, the Bronx?s high unemployment rate seems like an oxymoron. However, the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO) provides training courses to help Bronx residents become viable candidates in obtaining jobs.

According to the New York Department of Labor, there are almost 40,000 Bronx residents unemployed. Some unemployed residents looking to reduce this number enroll in computer training courses offered by SoBRO. Residents who participate in these classes say they are learning programs needed to land a job, such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Other programs offered by SoBRO help some residents advance in the workforce, or advance their educational status by obtaining their General Equivalency Diploma.

SoBRO has been serving the Bronx community for the past three decades.Related Link: South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation
