Bronx residents support MTA multi-million dollar agreement to fight terrorismPosted: Updated:
The MTA announced Tuesday a $212 million collaboration with Lockheed Martin, a major defense provider and technology corporation, to enhance transportation security.
The plan, which will be implemented over the next three years, will add 1,000 surveillance cameras and 3,000 motion sensors to subways, train stations, bridges and tunnels throughout the area. The sensors and cameras feature specific software that triggers an alarm if an unattended package has been left on a platform. The agreement marks the MTA?s largest financial commitment to fight terrorism.
Bronx residents say the MTA?s efforts help them feel safer on public transportation.
