Bronx third and fifth graders improve test scores in summer school

More Bronx third and fifth graders are moving up to the next grade as summer school test results improve.

This year, under the new promotion policy, 55 percent of third graders and 43 percent of fifth graders in the Summer Success Academy were promoted to the next level. Under the new promotion policy, students who do not pass standardized tests must go through summer school where they can retake the tests.

School officials recognize that the percentages of summer school students advancing to the next grade do not include special education children and most English language learners.Related Story
