Mayoral candidates tour Bronx apartment building on worst landlord list

In an effort to keep housing problems at the forefront of New York?s mayoral campaign, housing advocates organized a tour for candidates Anthony Weiner and Fernando Ferrer.

Candidates toured 2654 Valentine Avenue, which was part of the top 10 worst landlords list released in July by Housing Here and Now. Tenants say their landlord, Moshe Piller, is aware of the building?s problems but has done nothing to fix them. They say some of the building?s problems include broken faucets and destroyed floor tiles. Piller says he has tried to fix the building?s violations but some problematic tenants are constantly increasing his repair list.

Both candidates say if they?re elected mayor, they would crack down on problem landlords.Related Story
