Montefiore doctors offer parents reminder about vaccinating their kids

Doctors at the Montefiore Comprehensive Care Center are reminding parents that all kids need to get a physical before going back to school.

Included in a physical are vision and dental check-ups as well as vaccinations. What's new this year is that all children born on or after January 1, 1994 must receive a chicken pox immunization. In addition, children who are at least 12 years of age must also get the shot.

Montefiore doctors also say parents should talk to their kids about healthy food options at school. Anxiety about going back to school and carrying heavy backpacks are other issues parents should address with their children.
