Shooting at annual Labor Day party leaves 10-year-old Bronx girl dead

A 10-year-old girl was fatally shot Monday at a neighborhood block party in Mott Haven.

Police say Naisha Pearson was apparently hit by a stray bullet in the chest. She stumbled out of Saw Mill Playground at 139th Street and Willis Avenue and collapsed. Police say a 19-year-old man, who was targeted by the shooter, was hit five times and is in serious condition at Lincoln Medical Center.

Residents chased down the gunman and several fights broke out after the shooting. So far, police have arrested Rene Bonilla in connection with the shooting. They say they also brought several people in for questioning. Charges are pending against Bonilla until police have finished their investigation.

Police believe the cause of the shooting was an argument between two young men.
