New mini-academies open in the Bronx for the new school year

As many Bronx public school students headed back on the first day of the new school year Thursday, some of those students headed to several smaller schools for the first time.

As part of the mayor?s plan to eliminate failing schools, 22 new mini-academies opened within the larger Bronx high schools. Enrollment for each of the new schools is capped off at 500 students.

Meanwhile, parents are encouraged to talk to their children before sending them back to school or off to school for the first time. Parents are also urged to help children develop good study habits.
