Soundview tenants concerned they may become homeless

Tenants at Parklane Apartments in Soundview say they are worried about becoming homeless if their landlords decide to leave the ?Mitchell-Lama Housing Subsidy Program.?

Under this program, federally-assisted developments receive funding that allows tenants to pay below market rents based on their income.

However, Law 79 was passed to allow tenants to partner with a non-profit group, community groups or even the government to take over their buildings, making them into co-ops and other forms of affordable housing.

Tenants say they are still worried because they must generate enough funding to buy-out the building from their landlord and this may be a distant hope.
