MTA vows strict enforcement of conduct changes on BX and city subways

Bronx straphangers will now have to change their daily routines as the MTA board approves subway code of conduct changes Thursday.

MTA officials say many of the rules are already in place and the changes are meant to strengthen them. Officials will now be strictly enforcing the beverage ban so riders looking to enjoy a morning cup of coffee may find themselves getting slapped with a fine. Another change prevents passengers from moving from car to car. There is also stricter guidelines now for who can bring a pet on board a subway.

Some straphangers are not happy the possible changes. However, transit officials say the rules are in place for health and safety reasons.
