Tanker truck fire cleanup causes traffic nightmare in Hunts Point

Crews began cleaning up the Bruckner Expressway after a tanker truck burst into flames Tuesday on Bruckner Boulevard and Hunts Point Avenue, killing the driver. Part of the expressway was re-opened for the morning commute. Throughout much of the day, however, traffic still had to be re-routed around the scene of the accident. Drivers say the cleanup caused a traffic nightmare in Hunts Point. Police believe the truck overturned and struck a retaining wall as it headed east on Bruckner Boulevard. They say the impact caused the truck's tank to rupture and ignite the fuel it was carrying. The driver of the truck has been identified as 36-year old Harbey Munoz. The eastbound Bruckner Expressway remains closed at the Sheridan Expressway and the eastbound service road is closed from Leggett Avenue to Whittier Street.
