Affordable housing complex opens in West Farms
Officials formally opened a new affordable housing complex on 178th Street in West Farms.
Tenants along with local officials gathered at The Honeywell Apartments Thursday for a ribbon cutting ceremony of the $15 million project. The building houses 79 studio and three bedroom apartments. The project was created under the combined efforts of the city and state Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the private developer, Phipps Houses. The new housing is being offered to low-income families, the mentally ill and the homeless.
Rent for new residents chosen through a random lottery system ranges from $630 to $855.
