Orchard Beach becomes a mass of pink during annual breast cancer walk

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and some Bronx residents are doing more than talking about it ? they walked for the cause Sunday during the annual Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Orchard Beach.

Thousands of Bronx residents participated in the three and a half mile walk. The money raised during the event is used to help combat breast cancer, a disease that the American Cancer Society estimates will kill 40,410 women by the end of 2005. Organizers say the money will be used for cancer research, prevention and helping cancer patients in the Bronx.

Participants in Sunday?s walk wore pink ribbons, which are the national symbol for breast cancer awareness.
