Bronx Health REACH calls on state to improve Medicaid system

The community group Bronx Health REACH says there is a disturbing trend among New York City medical practitioners to serve patients based on their color and not their condition.

The group says Bronx residents on state administered health programs, such as Medicaid, are being pushed into overcrowded public hospitals where they are not receiving adequate health care. Bronx Health REACH says the lack of attention some Medicaid patients receive is costing lives. The group says the state should adopt more laws and better enforcement to ensure Medicaid patients receive sufficient treatment.

Bronx Health REACH estimates there are 50 percent more black and Latino residents than white residents who do not have health insurance.
