MTA may have an early holiday gift for Bronx commuters

The MTA may have an early holiday gift for residents in the Bronx as officials intend to cut fares in half on weekends during the holiday season.

From Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, bus and subway riders will pay $1 per ride. The discounts will also be added to seven-day and 30-day unlimited MetroCards.

The MTA says the break is due to the agency's $928 million surplus. The fare cut is expected to be approved by the agency's board later this month.
