Firefighters union strikes tentative agreement with city

Mayor Bloomberg and the Uniformed Firefighter?s Association President Steven Cassidy announced a tentative contract settlement Thursday.

Firefighters, who have been without a contract for more than three years, will see their pay jump 17.5 percent over four years under the new tentative aggrement. In addition, the maximum base pay for firefighters will increase to about $63,000 while pay for new recruits will drop to $25,100. There will also be an increase in the city?s contribution to the retiree welfare funds, which adds up to about $100 a year.The contract aggrement, which must still be ratified by the union members, covers more than 8,000 firefighters.
