Advocates say Bronx intersection hinders disabled

Some Bronx advocates say the intersection of White Plains Road and Allerton Avenue, an area populated with senior citizen homes and Beth Abraham Hospital, is dangerous to disabled individuals.

Advocates say the intersection is hazardous for those in wheelchairs due to bumpy crosswalks, multiple potholes and shortened time frames during the pedestrian ?walk? signal. Disabled advocates also cite additional problems including sewer drains causing dangerous water pools and people parking in the middle of crosswalks.

To alleviate these problems, advocates want the Department of Transportation to level off the streets before winter and add ?Caution ? Wheelchair Crossing? signs throughout the intersection.
