Police shoot and kill teen in Tremont

A police officer shot and killed a 19-year-old in Tremont Sunday after authorities attempted to break up a fight.

According to eyewitnesses, Leonel Disla and another man were assaulting a third party on Creston Avenue. Witnesses say Disla was shot unnecessarily and the fight did not involve deadly force. However, police dispute this claim saying they retrieved a knife at the scene that measures almost 10 inches. Witnesses told police Disla did not resist arrest, but police shot him twice.

Disla was taken to St. Barnabus Hospital were he was pronounced dead. Police say the investigation is ongoing and no one has been taking into custody in relation to the incident.
