Senator Schumer proposes plans to help Bronx, city residents with heating costs

Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) has proposed plans to help Bronx and city residents with high heating costs.

A recent study shows New Yorkers are expected to pay an average of $450 more this year than they did last for heating oil and natural gas. Schumer says three years ago he set up a reserve of home heating oil. He says now is the time to use that reserve to keep costs down.

Schumer has also called to expand the weatherization assistance program. The weatherization process prevents cold air from leaking into homes and increases energy efficiency. Schumer says expanding the program could save Bronx residents approximately $300 on their bills.
