Firefighters endorse Bloomberg for New York City mayor

Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R-NY) can add another endorsement to his list after the Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) decided to back him in his re-election bid for New York City mayor Monday.

The UFOA, which represents 2,500 fire officials, says it believes Bloomberg will make decisions to strengthen the FDNY. The UFOA?s endorsement comes after a tentative contract agreement that gives firefighters a substantial raise. However, the UFOA?s president says the contract bore no relation to their endorsement.

The FDNY?s support makes this Bloomberg?s 13th major public safety endorsement during his 2005 campaign. Bloomberg says Monday?s endorsement brings his total number of supporting groups to 80.
