Bronx parents want DOE to change school bus law

Some parents in the Bronx are urging the Department of Education to change a law concerning school busing.

The law does not allow children to ride the bus once they reach the third-grade and live less than a mile from school premises. Parents say the law is outdated and therefore should be changed. Parents say they are willing to make needed sacrifices to get their children to school safely, but for those who work, the law creates an unnecessary burden.

Bronx borough President Adolfo Carrion, who was asked by a parent to investigate the matter, says he will look into helping resolve problems created by this rule.
