Bronx immigrants offered quick way to stay in country

Bronx immigrants will have an opportunity to try their luck at getting a visa quickly by applying for the Visa Diversity Lottery Program.

The Emerald Isle Immigration Center in Woodlawn offers help with the program. The state provides close to 50,000 visas randomly to immigrants from areas with low U.S. immigration rates. Those who are granted a visa are able to bring their spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21 into the country.

Registration for the 2007 drawing lasts until December 4. The lucky applicants who win the lottery will receive their visas at the end of next year.
