Bronx, city teachers approve contract agreement

United Federation of Teachers union leaders announced Thursday that Bronx and city teachers approved a contract agreement.

The deal was approved by teachers as well as the city. It gives teachers a 15 percent pay raise, retroactive to 2003, and starting teachers will be paid more. Under the newly approved deal, teachers must work an extra 10 minutes each day.

Union leaders say some issues still remain between the union and the city. Teachers had been working without a contract since May of 2003.
