Bronx residents calling for stricter penalties on illegal guns

Advocates gathered outside of Joseph Padro?s funeral in the Bronx Saturday urging local and state politicians to create tougher laws on illegal guns.

Police say Padro, a former Bronx resident, was fatally shot on October 31 by an assailant using an illegal gun. Some protestors say 90 percent of firearms used in criminal activity throughout the city are obtained outside of New York State. During their demonstration, advocates urged fellow residents to write to their congressmen asking for stricter laws and better enforcement.

Friends and family of Padro say if there were harsher penalties on illegal guns their beloved relative would still be here.
