Parade in Throgs Neck salutes America's veterans

Some Throgs Neck residents lined up along East Tremont Avenue Sunday to celebrate the annual Veterans Day Parade.

Veterans Day honors both living and deceased military personnel who have served in America?s armed forces. The parade featured two Grand Marshals, one living and one who died in combat. Grand Marshal Joseph Mazzariella, a Vietnam War veteran, says he is honored to share his parade title with former soldier and FDNY firefighter Christian Engledrum, who died last year while serving in Iraq.

Many parade attendants say the event demonstrates that regardless of whether residents support the war in Iraq, they do support America?s troops. Veterans Day is November 11.
