Group claims military unfairly targets certain Bronx students

The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) and other politicians say military recruiters are unfairly targeting minority and low-income students in the Bronx.

NYCLU says school principals release a list of students meeting these requirements to military personnel. NYCLU says the military feeds some students fictitious lies that they will not have to go to Iraq, when in reality many of America?s armed forces are fighting in the war. The NYCLU says recruiters are trying to entice students through promises of free college tuition, knowing many students can not otherwise afford to go.

According to the NYCLU, an estimated two-thirds of the individuals recruited are from low-income families.
