New study links the Bronx's high asthma rate to pollution in borough

There are more cases of childhood asthma in the Bronx than anywhere else and now researchers at NYU say they know why.Results of the Backpack Study, in which Bronx elementary students were given a backpack that monitored carbon concentrations, link the Bronx?s high asthma rate to pollution. The findings show that high concentrations of air pollution worsen asthma problems among south Bronx kids. Community leaders, scientists and elected officials are holding an asthma forum to discuss the problem on Saturday at South Bronx High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
