Bronx named poorest county in U.S. by American Community Survey
The Bronx was named the poorest county in the U.S. by the American Community Survey.
The survey showed that nearly one in three Bronx children are living below the federal poverty line. In Mott Haven, almost half the families are living in poverty. The City Council held a hearing Wednesday where experts offered possible solutions. Tax breaks and more affordable housing were some of the suggestions presented to elected officials to reduce poverty.
According to the American Community Survey, more than 94 percent of Bronx residents living in poverty are people of color.
