Food banks in the Bronx suffering from lack of donations for the holidays

As the holidays approach, shelters, food pantries and soup kitchens across the Bronx are suffering a food shortage.

A food pantry in Hunts Point says it is not storing the amount of food it usually does this time of year. Experts say corporations, small groups and individuals are donating less than they used to. They say the trend is especially troubling because the need is higher.

Some say the reasons people are donating less is because of the rising energy costs and the higher costs of living. Other reasons why corporate donations may be lagging this Thanksgiving is because many companies already allocated their yearly donation money to natural disaster charities.
