Parents on alert after attempted abduction at University Heights school

Parents are on alert after an attempted abduction at a University Heights school.

As families arrived at P.S. 33 Thursday, many had already heard about what happened the day before. Police say a man walked into the cafeteria and tried to take a 5-year-old girl. A school aide intervened but the man was able to get away. Several parents say they are going to call on the school to hire more staff to protect their children.

The Department of Education tells News 12 The Bronx that security guards don?t check identification after dismissal time. Bronx officers are posted around the school for the time being. Anyone with any information in this case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (1-800) 577-TIPS.
