Elderly Baychester woman in critical condition after home invasion

An elderly woman is in critical condition Thursday after two people tied her up and set fire to her Baychester home.

Police say 74-year-old Zallo Immacolata was outside her Tenbroeck Avenue home when she was approached by two people asking her about her house, which is up for sale. Officials say one of the suspects took out a knife and stabbed Immacolata in the neck and then dragged her inside her home and stabbed her in the chest. The suspects also demanded money and jewelry. Officials believe Immacolata gave them $1,000. Police say the suspects then tied the woman up and set fire to her house.

Immacolata was able to untie herself and escape from her burning home. She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition.
