Two companies expanding business in Hunts Point

Two companies will be expanding their businesses in Hunts Point, in a move the mayor says will bring more jobs for Bronx residents.

Baldor Specialty Foods and Anheuser Busch plan to expand their businesses on city-owned property as part of an overall effort to revitalize the area. Mayor Bloomberg says combined, the two companies will keep more than 800 jobs in the area and create more than 900 new jobs. Baldor has already said it plans to hire Bronx residents. Both companies say they also plan to give back to the community.

Meanwhile, some protestors from Teamsters Local 202 do not want Baldor to expand. They claim the company doesn?t hire unionized workers and as a result their employees are treated unfairly.

Baldor expects its new facility to be ready by the summer of 2006. Anheuser Busch says it will begin construction of its new home that same summer.
