Senator Klein urges support for proposed sex offender bill

Some Bronx residents along with Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx) met outside P.S. Intermediate School 194 to urge mandates requiring more notification when sexual predators move into the area.

Thursday?s rally was fueled by a recent move that put a convicted rapist blocks from the Zerega Avenue school. Klein is proposing legislation that would allow Bronx residents to be notified via e-mail. Klein also wants a stricter law to place sex offenders in a civil mental facility.

Governor George Pataki (R-NY) has already called for stricter penalties but the bill continues to become stalled in the state Assembly.
