Protesters call on Bloomberg to preserve affordable housing in Bronx, city
Protesters picketed outside the mayor?s house for the third time Sunday. They say they?ll keep coming back until Mayor Bloomberg (R-NY) pledges to preserve affordable housing in the Bronx and city. The protestors want the mayor to enact a home rule, which would give local officials control over the city?s rent and eviction laws. Protesters claim that the city could preserve rent-controlled apartments if it passed its own laws. Bloomberg?s office says officials in Albany have the authority to change rent and evictions laws. They say the protesters should focus on contacting those state officials.
