City saves millions by finding adoptive parents for Bronx, city children

The city is saving millions of dollars and helping Bronx and city children at the same time, according to a report.

The city?s Independent Budget Office shows that the city saved more than $42 million in a five-year period. Officials say this is because the city is focusing on finding adoptive parents for kids rather than investing more in the foster care system. City officials say it costs the city more to place children into foster care.

The number of adoptions has risen more than 17 percent over the past five years. The city has reinvested money it anticipates saving into the budget of Administration for Children?s Services.
