Boys and Girls Club in Co-op City threatened with eviction
The community group formerly known as the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club has been threatened with eviction from its long-time location at Co-Op City. The owners of the building, RiverBay, say the club owes them $175,000 in back rent. They also say since Gloria Wise lost funding from the city, they're cutting programs and passing some costs onto Bronx residents. In a letter obtained by News 12 The Bronx, Gloria Wise's chief operating officer said the rent has been paid up to date. The eviction proceeding effects five Gloria Wise locations in Co-op City, two of which are currently serving Bronx children. If the center is forced to shut down, nearly 200 Bronx parents will have to find alternative day care for their children. RiverBay, however, promises there will not be a lapse in day care.
