State unveils plan in case of flu outbreak in the Bronx, city

The state Health Department unveiled its plan Thursday in case of a flu outbreak in the Bronx and city.
State officials have been working on an emergency action plan for bird flu since last year. The plan is now part of the state?s existing emergency management plan that addresses various disasters, such as mass casualties and a SARS virus epidemic.
The 400-page plan outlines what health officials are doing to prevent and detect a flu outbreak. It also outlines what authorities should be instructing residents to do in the event of an outbreak. The plan allows each county health department to adjust the instructions based on its population.
