BX parents on public assistance get boost in day care allowances
After months of delays, the city?s welfare agency has informed Bronx parents on public assistance they can get more money to pay for day care.
According to a Daily News report, the higher rates for day care were approved by state authorities in October, but the Human Resources Administration (HRA) didn?t notify parents or day care providers until early last month.
The allowances for day care rose by five to 15 dollars a month over the prior rates. The amount depends on a child?s age and the type of day care. The allowances are funded primarily by federal dollars and are paid directly to the day care providers. The HRA reportedly requires parents to apply for the allowances instead of the providers.
