JHS 144 parents concerned about high school moving onto grounds
Parents and residents attended an emergency meeting Tuesday to discuss moving a high school onto the grounds of JHS 144.
The Department of Education is moving the Sports Professions High School to JHS 144. Parents at the middle school say overcrowding, violence and expenses are a few of the reasons they do not want the high school moving in. Some parents are also worried about the safety of their children in the school yard with the extra students.
Parents at the high school were also at the meeting. They say moving to any school is not what they want. The JHS 144 principal says the school will not increase its population and could handle the additional students. According to the Department of Education, the move is only temporary until the high school gets its permanent home in 2008.
