Allstate gives some Edgewater Park homeowners the boot
? Some Edgewater Park homeowners say Allstate is refusing to renew their insurance policies due to the threat of flooding.
Resident Joan Wise says she is required to have insurance on her coastal home, but the company dropped her. Allstate maintains it is still recovering from last year?s hurricane season. The company says it is exploring its options as there is a real threat destructive storms will hit the East Coast.
State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) is proposing legislation that would only allow insurers to drop 2 percent of policyholders annually, as opposed to 4 percent. The bill also calls for explanations for canceling policies.
