MTA votes in favor of new Metro-North rails to new Yankee stadium
? Plans to get commuters to the new Yankee stadium in the Bronx came one step closer to becoming a reality after the MTA approved spending Wednesday.
The MTA voted to spend $40 million of its budget toward building a new Metro-North station. The rails would serve people commuting from the northern suburbs and Manhattan. The money will come from a defunct project, but some MTA board members still question why the team is not contributing to the new Metro-North station.
The City Council also approved the team?s payment plan for the new ballpark on Wednesday. The construction is expected to cost more than $1 billion. The stadium is scheduled to open in 2009.
