Monroe High School senior Danny Almonte hoped to be drafted in the second day Wednesday, but the call never came. The pitcher says he will attend New Mexico Junior College on a baseball scholarship. Also Wednesday, Almonte was in Albuquerque playing in the PlayStation All-American Baseball Game next to some of the nation?s best high school players. He went 0 for 4, but had two RBIs. Almonte helped lead the East to a 9-7 victory.
In the second day of the draft, the Cincinnati Reds picked Lehman graduate Rafael Santos in the 15th round. The Washington Nationals picked Fordham?s Javier Martinez in the 42nd round. Martinez is the second Ram drafted this year. Greg Smith went to Pittsburgh in the 14th round.
