Bronx students start summer school without a hitch

The first day of summer school for those students in the Bronx began without any major problems Wednesday.

School officials say the summer session allows those students who did not do well during the year to catch up, as well as move forward. They say although the day is shorter, ending at 1 p.m., the curriculum is much more intense and taught at a faster pace. However, the student-teacher ratio is much smaller.

The summer session for Bronx elementary and middle school students ends August 5. For high schoolers the last day is August 17.
