Bronx seniors to get Orchard Beach parking discount again

Bronx seniors will be getting back a perk they have enjoyed for years at Orchard Beach.

Senior citizens say they used to pay $2 to park at Orchard Beach as part of an informal agreement offered by the parking lot operator. According to the city?s park commissioner, the Parks Department didn?t know about the discount until a new operator took over. The commissioner says when the new operator took over it took away the discount and seniors had to pay the full $6 parking fee.

Now, the commissioner says a compromise was worked out between the new operator and the parks department. Starting July 10 seniors will pay $3 to park in the lot Monday through Friday. A Bronx councilman is currently working on making the discount a permanent part of Orchard Beach.
